BLOG | IN REAL LIFE

We believe in interpreting holistic living in a way that is real, relevant and relatable.

New Zealand | January 2019

Some background — we went to New Zealand as Ed and a mate were competing in the Red Bull Defiance. We were exploring around their race schedule and prep as opposed to a fully fledged “holiday”. Here’s what we fit in:

Lake Wanaka

ATE
Charlie Brown - a roadside creperie which has GF crepes. Nuf said (next to The Coffee Shack)
Soul Food - healthy and organic grocery store + cafe (lots of vegan options)
The Coffee Shack - awesome roadside coffee
Fedeli, next to Federal Deli - delicious and fresh salad options, came here daily
The Cow - great Italian (try the house made bread!)

Didn’t do but recommended:
Rippon Winery for afternoon wine tasting
Francesca’s Italian - this was booked out but meant to be amazing

DID
Lay and swam on the banks of Lake Wanaka. The water is like silk and was a perfect temperature.
Hiked Roy ‘s Peak
Shopped at 47 Frocks (next to Fedeli) which stocks brands like Bassike, Sol Sana, Sansceutials, Kate Sylvester and The Work Room (next to The Coffee Shack) which has really nice homewares.
The Blue Pools, about an hours drive from the town. Take your cosis for a swim!

Didn’t do but recommended:
Hike Rob Roy’s Glacier
Jumping off the bridge at the Blue Pools

OTHER
We were here in January and I had really bad heyfever. If that’s you too, bring what you need in the way of antihistamines, tissues, paw paw etc.
The air is really dry and hence my skin felt really thirsty. Drink lots of water and take ample skin oil/moisturiser.

Queenstown

ATE
Sherwood - the food is mostly grown in the their garden and they’re known for their cocktails
Bespoke Kitchen - really yummy breakfast, big portions, and lots of healthy (and unhealthy) options
Amisfield Winery - go with the “Trust the Chef” you won’t regret it
Slow Cuts in Arrowtown - everything is good, go with your gut (see what I did there)
Fergburger - do it. worth it. apparently you can order ahead over the phone and skip the que to pick up
Yonder - wouldn’t rush back TBH

Didn’t do but recommended:
The Slow - Zoe Foster Blake raves about the Ruben here
Vudu - so many people recommended but we didn’t make it
Chop Shop in Arrowtown - similar to Slow Cuts
Botswana Butchery - I’m told great for a special occasion, lunch or dinner

SLEPT
Sherwood - fave place I’ve ever stayed (big call I know). Everything they do is about reflecting a sense of place, a connection to nature and a moment in time. They also have a sauna, yoga + wellbeing centre. Highly recommend.

DID
Arrowtown - quaint little town, more chilled than Queenstown.
Amisfield visit

Didn’t do but recommended:
Shotover jet - we thought it was exxy and touristy but regretted not doing it. Looks really fun!
Wye Creek - 20 min drive from QT
Bob’s Cove Track- 15 min drive from QT
Horse riding in Glenorchy
Nadi Wellness for massages and yoga
Onsen Hot Pools - was booked out while we were there
